The ten sandalwood beads symbolize the Ten Directions of the Earth (East, South, West, North, Southeast, Southwest, Northeast, Northwest, Heaven, Earth). The nine tiger's eye beads correspond to the Taoist underworld's Nine Layers of earth. The total of nineteen represents the sum of "One" (Taiji) and "Nine" (The ultimate number), signifying "Nine returns to One, the Ten Directions are secure".
